The Case Method

What is a Case? Why use the Case Method?

How do I take part in the Case Method?

The participation in the Case Method is clearly divided into two phases, preparation and sessions.

The preparation of a case may in turn involve two blocks of time which are individual preparation, and a discussion of case in a small group.

  • Individual analysis and preparation of business cases
  • Discussions in small interdisciplinary groups, guided by a team director
  • General session with the academic staff for the area and the entire group of participants.

The sessions, and their main pedagogical instrument - the Case Method - are complemented by scientific material, reading, technical notes, discussions, presentations, lectures, simulation exercises and indoor and outdoor activities, which provide a comprehensive professional experience.

Teamwork

In a modern business, it is common to see heterogeneous human teams formed by people with different academic formations and professional track-records. In the context of the schemes, and based on a series of criteria, objectives and strategies are defined, responsibilities and functions are allocated to each member, so that the final result of this collective effort will be greater than the sum of the individual contributions made.

Aware of the needs of the business community, the INALDE pedagogical method includes weekly meetings of small groups throughout the two years of the course, accompanied by a professional team director, who guides discussions and the integral and individual formation of participants.

In teamwork, as developed in INALDE, participants analyze business situations presented in cases to analysis and comparison of arguments. This needs to the discovery of points of view and experiences which are very different, as might be expected from the wide variety of origins of the participants.

Therefore, participants will improve their capacity for teamwork, and dynamize individual capacities in communications, speaking in public, listening to others, organization and analysis; and will be encouraged to improve their weak points and to dynamize their strong points. Friendship and the collegiate spirit proper to teamwork are encouraged. The friendships which are developed in this kind of experience are the basis for lasting and fruitful professional and social relationships.

International week

INALDE taught me that a business should be conceived to generate value "always" over time, and that we as managers have that mission, and that in order to succeed in that we should build a proper organizational structure with strategies, responsibilities, and above all long-term thinking. I sincerely believe that thanks to these lessons, the Parmalat crisis placed us - as it would in any other crisis that comes up - in a privileged situation to be able to deal with the problem and carry on with the business.
