Analysis of business situations

The purpose is to introduce participants to the Case Method, at the same time as helping them to acquire skills in the formulation of objectives, the identification of problems, the search for criteria and their evaluation, the proposal of alternative solutions and the operation of specific action plans for implementation, from a holistic view of business.


Analysis of decisions and negotiation

The object is to form participants in the process of management decision-taking. The participant learns to face problems which are complex either because of their consequences, or because there are high levels of uncertainty or ambiguity, and to developed competences in negotiation and the solution of conflict, through understanding points of view of others, and to acquire a practical knowledge of varied negotiating techniques.


The management of the individual in an organization

This helps to develop the abilities of managing people, understanding the key factors which influence individual motivation, and providing tools to construct and lead effective teams. At the same time, participants gain a deep knowledge of personal styles management, and how this affects others, in both professional and personal life.


Project for life and the family

The purpose is to encourage individuals to find a transcendent meaning of existence, and hence, of his management work. It seeks to ensure that participants take control of their lives as defined by where they want to go, pointing towards an objective which will cover all the dimensions of their lives (being, doing, having and giving) through reflection, personal knowledge, conscious familiarity with the present, and tools to define the future.


Formation and ethics

All business decisions involve ethical considerations, derived from principles which govern the businessman’s actions. These principles also imply a concept of the individual, and of human relations based on respect, empathy, judgment, honesty and trust. This course aims to deal with these matters with from an anthropological standpoint and following universal principles of ethics and the responsibilities of managers in relation to the business and its welfare, amongst other things.


The economic, political and social environment

This course comprises a review of the Colombian economy and government policy which may affect production costs and access to markets, and offers tools to improve skills in decision-taking, the capacity for economic analysis, diagnosis and the planning productive activities in order to achieve greater competitiveness, in the context of globalized economy which is both competitive and interdependent.


Business policy

This course allows participants to learn that in order a competitive strategy needs more than just good ideas. They must be able to implement good ideas properly, and the same time as understanding that corporate government is the business of individuals, and that individuals are different and have different points of view and capacities for risk-taking - and enormously different capacities for action. It also seeks to develop the ability to design successful strategies which will produce sustainable competitive advantages in a highly competitive environment.


The family business

This is an area of in-depth examination of business policy which refers to the management of family-owned businesses. It studies the three systems present in the business of this kind: ownership, family and work. It prepares participants to solve situations of conflict which arise when these systems clash with each other, so that the business will survive and the satisfaction and unity of the family will be maintained.


Marketing management

This course provides deeper knowledge of the variables in the process of preparing and placing the offer of value, starting from market principles, and the creation of value for the client and other participants in the market, in order finally to capture part of the value generated for business. Participants learn to structure commercial plans, develop factors of differentiation, and achieve competitive positioning for the company.


Production, operations and technology management

This course approaches basic concepts in the management of operations in manufacturing and service organizations. It provides participants with the tools to make analyses of operations, management, control, and systems in their companies, and prepares them for decision-taking, the implementation of action plans, and the design of strategies which will serve as the basis of improved competitiveness.


Financial Management

The purpose of this course is to provide formation in financial diagnosis and analysis of businesses, providing the tools required to understand the financial structure of the organization in the short term, and so to be able to negotiate bank loans, or long-term funding, in order to define the policies and strategies of going to the market. Participants will be able to estimate the structure of the cost of capital and optimize it, manage short and medium-term investment portfolios, and value highly complex businesses and investment projects.


Management control and information

This course develops quantitative thinking and transmits advanced knowledge to gain an understanding of financial statements and cost management, providing a modern and up-to-date vision of tools to align objectives to which company management can resort, in order to improve yields.


Information Systems

This course seeks to generate an understanding of the way in which a strategy requires an Information Systems to support its implementation. Participants will understand the key points needed to choose the right information systems for the needs of business, and to choose the objectives expected.


New ventures

The course in New Ventures aims to teach participants how to transform a challenge into an opportunity, and to discover business opportunities and prepare successful business plans, as a way of identifying and dynamizing their capacities and abilities as managers and entrepreneurs. At the end of course, participants are required to present a business plan, which will be treated as a degree paper for the MBA course.


Electives

During the program, participants will have to choose six topics from a wide selection of alternatives in areas such as marketing, operations, finance, business policy, et cetera. The presence of the electives does not denote specialization in a particular area of management knowledge, but rather, it represents a scheme of curricular flexibility which answers the specific needs and interests of each participant.

International Week


“The international week gives the opportunity to contact participants from other countries, studying within the same system, and it seemed that our group was above the academic expectations proposed. In addition to the academic activities, the group was able to integrate better and to get to know each other in an atmosphere different from that which we share in Colombia.”
